Hi Def Football and Great Food

The owners of The Kitchen Bar in the northwest Philadelphia suburb of Abington had a novel idea: Give the customers total control over what they see on the restaurant’s television screens.

Changing the channels on a regular TV would be nice but what the customers would be controlling in this case was one of several High Definition feeds coming from satellite downlinks and cable receivers. The idea was to satisfy the desires of just about any Eastern Pennsylvania sports fan – especially a football fan – while he or she enjoyed the food and spirits of The Kitchen Bar.

Enter Hi-Fi House, a system integration firm located in Jenkintown, PA., another Philly suburb. In business for 51 years and known for high quality design and installation services, Hi Fi House assigned A/V System Designer Mark Sandquist the job of turning the customer’s requirement into reality.

From the first it was obvious that creating the system within the available budget was going to be a challenge. A matrix router was obviously required but the available cash didn’t allow for the purchase of a dedicated 7x7 component router. To make things even more interesting, the customer wanted the patrons of the establishment to be able to control individual displays via remote control.

What to do?

Sandquist thought “Maybe TV One’s subsidiary company, A/V Toolbox can help”.

Sandquist took the customer’s requirements as a personal challenge and designed a system that used AVT-5842 4x2 component matrix A/V switchers, fed by AVT-4914 1x4 component distribution amplifiers, all controlled by universal remote controls strategically placed near each of the restaurant’s HDTV displays. He designed a system with the capabilities of a dedicated, medium size component router without spending the whole budget on just that one piece of equipment.

“A/V Toolbox equipment allowed Hi Fi House to complete a 7x7 matrix switching job that works perfectly for a fraction of the cost of using another company’s product.” Sandquist commented.

The AVT-5842 component 4x2 matrix router handles the YPbPr signals and stereo audio feeds without signal degradation and the 100 Mhz AVT-4914 1x4 component DAs make certain that the signals supplied to the switchers are full HDTV bandwidth. The system is totally capable of showing all the detail that a fussy fan wants to see when the free safety drops the pass receiver a half yard short of the end zone.

At the end of the day, it’s performance that counts both in sports and in business. And regardless of which teams the customers at The Kitchen Bar follow, one sure winner is the team work and innovation coupled with a rock solid performance provided by Hi Fi House and TV One.
